Linkedin: Improving user experience for notifications.

Getting a notification and have to leave the homepage, only to find someone viewed your profile notification (a handy feature, but does not have to take me to a new page)

Many may find a notification page helpful, but I bet most users will benefit if the notification was a drop-down.

Or

Linkedin can give options to the user if they need the usual notification page or a drop-down menu to keep everyone happy (Like Reddit's old and new interface option).

Do you think the notification must be a drop-down menu or a full-fledged page? Let me know your thoughts.
